Pin Sealer
This project involves the design, development, testing and manufacture of a so-called “Pin Sealer” device, that is used in conjunction with external fixation pins and where negative pressure wound treatment is being used. The device, a consumable, will improve the effectiveness of the negative pressure wound therapy, and thereby reduce costs associated with fracture wounds that take long to heal, including those cases that require follow-on surgery where infection or complications have occurred. This project is being developed in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town.
