Nurturing an up-and-coming talent
Godisa Newsletter - June 2004
Over the years, Lebogang Mnguni has designed and developed
a range of clothing items that combine heat and vibration
therapies for pain relief applications. In the process,
he has won multiple design awards for his inventions.
After a process of consultation with Acorn Technologies
in Cape Town, it was concluded that Mr. Mnguni’s designs,
although innovative, would not be suitable for the medical
market in their current form. In November 2003, it
was arranged that Mr. Mnugni meet with Medac, a Cape Town-based
bracing company that has extensive product development and
marketing experience in the bracing field. He was subsequently
introduced to the Sports Science Institute where the scientific
merit of his products is currently being researched.
“Mr. Mnguni is now also undertaking a Godisa-supported
internship with Medac, where he will be able to fine-tune
his designs in accordance to the required standards for therapeutic
applications,” said Dr Peter Breitenbach, CEO of Acorn
Technologies. “He will also be able to gain valuable
product development, manufacturing as well as marketing experience
in the process.”
With extensive product development and marketing expertise
in the bracing field, Medac can guide and be a mentor for
Mr Mnguni. According to Dr. Breitenbach, the overall
deliverable of this project would be that during his internship,
Mr Mnguni develops a range of products that can be marketed
in this field, that he add value to Medac and gain experience
during the process.
We wish Mr. Mnguni the best of luck with his endeavours.
